As part of the promotion for the upcoming NOT CD release, Private Scandal's Japan Representative, Kiichi-Vader has conducted a series of interview with NOT's vocalist/guitarist, Hidde. These interviews are being published in Japanese on the Mr's Instagram account and in English here.
NOT suitable for sales promotion #4: WHITE GLOVE TEST #1
"I don't have any particular attachment to this song, but I put together some riffs and created this song." - Hidde
Kiichi: So that's it? You don't have any particular attachment to this song?
Hidde: Not at all.
Kiichi: So, the phrase "white glove" apparently means "extreme care" because people wear white gloves when handling jewellery and other expensive items. Is that what you meant by the title?
Hidde: I found out that's what it meant later, but I never thought about it that way at first.
Kiichi: Alright, so what does it mean?
Hidde: There's nothing deep about it. I just borrowed the title from another band.
Kiichi: Are you going to play this song at your gig in January?
Hidde: Yes, we're doing it!
Kiichi: OK, so you're going to play the whole album?
Hidde: That's right! If we play all the songs, it's only 17 minutes!
Kiichi: Is it that short!?
Hidde: We're gonna try to finish songs in under two minutes. Two minutes is the limit. If possible, I'd like to finish each song in one and a half minutes. Even one minute would be fine.
Kiichi: Do you remember these lyrics properly?
Hidde: Yes, I do.
Kiichi: I thought you would've forgotten. But if you forget your lyrics, you can just sing something random on the spot and it's fine.
Hidde: Yeah. If you forget, just sing "blah blah blah ski-bi-dibby-dib yo-da-dub-dub, yo-da-dub-dub!" and you'll be fine.
Kiichi: You'll be channelling Scatman John! (laughs)
The conversation continues in this vein for a while. The next day, while writing up these notes, Kiichi forgot the origin of the song title so he starts up the same conversation with Hidde again.
Kiichi: I forgot the origin of the title of that song.I think you said you picked up the title "something glove" from some song.
Hidde: The truth is, I borrowed the title from another band. So I don't remember picking up "something glove" anywhere in particular.
Kiichi: You sound like an NPC would say in Dragon Quest! "I don't remember picking up flaming gloves in the cave." It made me laugh the way you said it. I want to know the names of that other band and their song title that gave you the inspiration for "White Glove Test".
Hidde: It was a song by a band called SPAZZ.
Kiichi: So what's the song title?
Hidde: I don't remember (laughs)
Kiichi: Typical! (laughs)
Hidde: Because SPAZZ have like 4,000 songs! (laughs)
Kiichi: Jesus...
Overwhelmed by the number 4,000 songs, Kiichi searches for "SPAZZ. GLOVE" in despair, thinking "surely I won't find this..."
Kiichi: You idiot! I found it right away!
Hidde: Wow, the internet is amazing! (laughs)
The answer was SPAZZ's song "White Glove Test." It's the same name...What the fuck...? What was all that long-winded exchange about...I'm sure the readers feel the same way, but here are some words that are perfect for times like these.
If you read part 1 of this series you'll know what I'm talking about. Now, everyone, let's all say it together...
"My head is... MOYAMOYA!!!"
